About Me
The Desert As My Guide
Hi, I’m Alex McGinness, the founder and lead designer at Arcoíris Design Studio.
My journey into tarot and oracle deck design wasn’t linear. It began under a full moon in Joshua Tree, as the Geminid meteor shower danced overhead. In that sacred stillness, a symbol revealed itself: clear, quiet, powerful. I knew a deck needed to be born.
What followed wasn’t easy…, but it definitely was magical. Within a week, designed the look of my cards. Within two more, I had channeled 53 messages from what I now call the Spirit of the Desert. The result was The Desert Oracle Deck: a beginner-friendly, deeply intuitive tool. No guidebook, just clarity, presence, and a container for your own inner wisdom.
That creation wasn’t just a side project. It became the foundation of my entire design studio. It showed me that design is co-creation with Spirit, not just aesthetics or strategy, but soul alignment, ease, and grounded intuition.

Oracle deck design starts at $5,000, and tarot deck design starts at $10,000. Every deck is custom quoted after a discovery call, since the investment depends on the number of cards, the artwork, and extras like packaging and a guidebook.

I design all kinds of decks, from intimate oracle decks and question decks to full 78-card tarot decks.

I don’t hand-illustrate, but my signature art style is custom digital collage, which creates layered, textured, dreamlike imagery for each card. (You can see examples of this on this web page!) If you have your own artwork or are working with an illustrator, I’ll handle the art direction, card layouts, and visual system so everything feels cohesive from the first card to the last.

You’ll need a clear concept for your deck before we begin. A card list is also super helpful, since it gives us a strong structure to design from. Your card messages and guidebook don’t need to be written yet!

That’s completely okay. As long as you have your concept, we can shape the rest together. Your card messages and guidebook content just need to be finished before the design phase wraps up, so we can move straight into printing.

Most deck projects take 6 to 12 months. Oracle decks can often be completed faster, while full tarot decks typically take about 12 months, since they include 78 cards and a structured symbolic system. You’ll receive a clear timeline in your custom proposal.

Yes! Every deck project is split into a deposit plus installment payments over the course of the project, so your investment is spread out as your deck comes to life.

Yes. You’ll receive full ownership and commercial rights, so you can print, sell, and share your deck however you’d like. You’ll walk away with every file you need, including card layouts, packaging, and print-ready PDFs. I keep the right to share your deck in my portfolio and marketing.

I’ve guided decks all the way through printing, and I can recommend trusted printers and prepare your files to their exact specifications so the printing process feels smooth and stress-free.

Absolutely! Many deck creators launch through Kickstarter or pre-orders. I design mockups of your deck that are perfect for your campaign page, social media sneak peeks, and pre-order listings, and your print-ready files will be ready whenever you are.

That’s okay, you have options! I’d love to create the artwork for your deck in my signature digital collage style, and you can see examples in The Desert Oracle and The Spirit Oracle. But I don’t have to be your artist. If you already have artwork from another artist, I can bring it all together for you, with card layouts, packaging, and print-ready files so your deck is ready for the world. Our discovery call is the perfect place to talk through what fits your vision.
